On 11 February 2020, Coventry Lord Mayor’s Committee for Peace and Reconciliation launched the Coventry Peace Award.

Teachers from 33 schools registered to attend the launch and 32 people were able to attend. The Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor Linda Bigham, introduced the Award, explaining that it evolved out of comments made during Coventry Young People’s Peace and Reconciliation Conference 2019.

Balbir Sohal talked about peace education, Philip Brown described the registration process and the peace education database, Pru Porretta talked about how Godiva Sisters can promote peace in schools, Rebecca Bollands talked about what Howes School are doing with regards to peace, Jennifer Jenkins talked about ICONS and Rhys Davies described some of the activities of Cardinal Newman Catholic School.

Delegates then discussed and recorded their thoughts about three questions:

• What does peace in our school look like?
• What activities can promote peace?
• What would you like help with that promotes peace?
